Getting to Stehekin

Half the fun of vacationing in Stehekin is getting here. Located at the head of Lake Chelan, there are no roads connecting this small community to the outside world. Be prepared to take a boat, plane, horse, or your own 2 feet to get here.

Most people travel to the city of Chelan, and then travel 50 miles via passenger ferry boat to get to Stehekin. For a quicker journey, Chelan Seaplanes offers float plane service from Chelan to Stehekin.

You may wish to spend one night in Chelan before continuing up to Stehekin. For information on Chelan motels, boat schedules, float planes, busses or other services call the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce at 1 (800) 4-CHELAN.

Float Plane Service
Daily scheduled flights to and from downtown Chelan and Stehekin. The flight time to Stehekin is 25 minutes. Chelan Seaplanes also offers flight tours of the surrounding area. Passenger Ferry Service
The Lake Chelan Boat Company opperates 2 passenger ferry boats on Lake Chelan. The Lady Express Boat travels the 50 miles between Chelan and Stehekin in 2 hours, with minimal stops along the way. The Lady II takes nearly 4 hours, making several additional stops along the way to drop off and pick up passengers at Prince Creek, Lucerne, Moore Point, and other flag stops.

Which boat should you take?
Well, we recommend catching the Lady Express boat which arrives in Stehekin in time to meet the 11:15 am Shuttle Bus. This bus gets you to the Ranch in time for lunch and afternoon activities. Primarily we utilize the scheduled valley shuttle for your transportation in the valley so the bus at the boat landing will not say Stehekin Valley Ranch, but rather "SHUTTLE". Stehekin Valley Ranch is situated 9 miles up the valley, so be sure not to miss the Shuttle!

If you decide to take the Lady II boat, be prepared to wait a short time, because the schedule does not match the arrival time exactly for this boat. The next bus leaves at 2 pm to coordinate with afternoon activities up valley. The Lady II comes in at 12:30 pm, giving you an hour and a half to explore the Landing area.

If you cannot catch a morning boat, the option we recommend is booking a flight with Chelan Seaplanes. If you are arriving via floatplane with Chelan Seaplanes, or Lake Chelan Boat Tours (charter boat reservations 509-682-8287), be sure to work with them to schedule your arrival so that it coincides with the bus schedule.

Getting to the Ranch

After getting to the Stehekin, you still have to find your way to the Ranch, which is 9 miles from the Stehekin Boat Landing. This is actually very easy. Just hop on the Stehekin Valley Shuttle Bus, and tell the driver you are staying at the Ranch. Your fare is covered as a guest at the Ranch, and the driver will drop you off right at our doorstep.

The Shuttle Bus services the lower 11 miles of the Stehekin Valley. If you arrived in Stehekin via boat or floatplane, the Shuttle will pick you up right at the Landing where you were dropped off. If you are hiking in through the North Cascades, you will have to make your way to High Bridge, where you can then get a lift the final 2 miles to the Ranch.

Coming to the Ranch for Activities?
If you are staying elsewhere in the Stehekin Valley and have reserved your Horseback Riding or River Rafting activities in advance, please check in at the KIOSK located directly in front of Stehekin Landing Resort BEFORE heading to the Ranch. They will be able to confirm your reservation, take final payment for your activities, get you a bus ticket, and answer any other questions you may have about your activities and/or transportation.
